I was really excited when I heard in early 2009 ,that the NFA had coaches that were ex Huskers and ex NFL players and that I had an opportunity to train with and learn from them. Going into my senior year of high school, I was looking for ways to tweak my training methods so that I could raise my level of play to the point at which I might garner a few post season honors and be able to go on to play at the college level.
I learned about intense training methods and how to develop better strength and endurance with core muscle groups. I found out that there is a lot more to becoming a better athlete than simply increasing my bench and squat max. I developed better speed and explosiveness which definitely improved how I practiced and therefore how I played on the football field. My strength through weight training increased at a faster rate once I learned how to incorporate core muscle group training into my workouts. Through the coaches of the NFA I learned about a lot of muscles that I had never heard of and how important these muscles were to becoming a better athlete.
For having never started a game in varsity before, and having been moved to defensive end from linebacker for my senior year, I believe that I had a pretty good season this past fall in football. I had 95 tackles from the defensive end position, had a lot of quarterback sacks and tackles for loss in spite of being double teamed much of each game, had a fumble return for a touchdown, a safety, and on offense my ability to block was taken to another level. At fullback I was the lead blocker for the running back who was the state’s second leading rusher (among classes A and B). At this point I have received first team all district honors on defense and several colleges have been in touch with me about possibly playing for them next year. The coaches of the NFA were a big part of my raising my level of play in football this year. I would strongly recommend the NFA to any athlete who wishes to become the best that they can be in football, or any other sport.
